Wax Melts and Burners seem to be everywhere these days.. I like them because you can enjoy a scented candle without smoke or soot….just be sure you place them where you curious pets or kids can’t reach them – I keep mine on the mantle, which might not work if I had cats.

It’s easy to make your own wax melts with what ever scent you prefer. These directions are for lavender

For supplies : You need a 4 cup glass or plastic measuring cup (microwave safe ) and silicone molds – any shape or design you choose, but not too big. Look for the candy sized molds

For Ingredients: 2 cups of soy wax flakes, 100 drops of lavender essential oil, lavender flower buds (optional)
To make: Melt Soy Flakes in the measuring cup in the microwave.. Start with 3 minutes, stir, and continue heating at 30 second intervals until completely melted and wax liquifies. Add the drops of essential oil and continue to mix. Slowly pour into silicone molds – 3/4 full – If desired add lavender buds to each melt – use a chopstick to sink buds if needed. Wait 2 hours for melts to harden – you can put in the refrigerator if you want to harden faster. Pop out carefully to use.
To Use: In a traditional warmer put on top and wait for melt….I use a silicone cupcake liner to hold the wax melt – to make clean up easier

You can also put wax melts in mason jars with vented lids to keep in the car as air freshener – or place on a sunny window sill.
