Spring Cleaning- DIY recipes

Our temperatures reached into the sixties this weekend – which meant opening up the windows and wiping down the sills. Vinegar, Baking Soda, Lavender Oil and Distilled Water are the cleaning products we use – recipes follow

In a glass spray bottle, combine one cup of white vinegar with one cup of distilled water and ten drops of lavender oil. Shake before use.

For extra scrubbing power. – sprinkle baking soda on the surface first before spraying – it will bubble a bit. Let sit for a minute or two and than wipe clean.

Variations – you can use a combination of essential oils five drops of each- lemon and lavender is nice – If you don’t have any oils on hand – you can also infuse the vinegar. Add 1/4 cup of dried lavender to one cup of vinegar in a mason jar. Put on the top and let sit for ten days on a window sill with sunlight. Shake daily. When ready,Strain out lavender with fine mesh colander or cheesecloth. Vinegar will color from the lavender – add infused vinegar to your spray bottle with two cups of distilled water.

Infused vinegar

Avoid using vinegar sprays on granite or marble surfaces.

Lavender Serums DIY

Argan Oil

Lavender Serums are lavender essential oil diluted by Argan Oil.

They can be called skin serums or hair serums, but they are both essentially the same thing – pun intended.

Argan Oil is also known as Liquid Gold, for it’s color and price, it is not a greasy oil that leaves residue – sometimes referred to as a dry oil.

To make your own serums, combine Ten drops of oil to One ounce of Unscented Argan Oil – Mix Well and Voila – you have a serum. You can dispense with a dropper or store in a roller bottles. Dark glass bottles are best.

A little goes a long way. Just a drop is needed, rub together in your hands and run them through your wet or dry hair, or apply to your face and neck in circular motions. Avoid eyes.
